3 shot in Fayetteville, Cumberland County carjacking crime spree; 1 arrested: Officials

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — Authorities in Fayetteville have made an arrest after three people were shot during a carjacking crime spree that began after daybreak Sunday morning in Cumberland County, north of Fayetteville, police said.

The wild series of events that involved two unsuccessful carjackings began just after 7 a.m. along Messenger Drive off Honeycutt Road when a victim was shot during a carjacking north of Fayetteville in Cumberland County, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

Next, the same suspect traveled in the carjacked vehicle about 3 miles east to a Hardee’s at 6397 Ramsey St. at the corner of Andrews Road, police said.

There, the suspect shot a woman passenger during the unsuccessful carjacking of a Toyota 4Runner in the Hardee’s drive-through, police said.

The 4Runner driver sought help for the injured woman across the street at a Food Lion at 150 Andrews Road, officers said.

Meanwhile, the suspect traveled about 2 miles to another Food Lion at 929 McArthur Road at Stacy Weaver Road, where a woman was shot during an unsuccessful carjacking, according to police.

The two shooting victims in Fayetteville were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and are reported as stable.

Later, police and Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office deputies located and chased the suspect.

The chase ended, and an arrest was made around 9:20 a.m. in far western Fayetteville near the Cliffdale and South Reilly roads intersection.

“Officers and detectives are currently at both scenes, and some areas are shut down while they conduct the investigation,” Fayetteville police said in a news release.

Officers said anyone in the 900 block of McArthur Road and the 6300 block of Ramsey Street should expect a heavy law enforcement presence.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation.
