RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — For the third consecutive week to start the 2026 North Carolina High School football season, varsity games were split between Thursday and Friday nights — this time due to heat rather than rain.

This week’s CBS 17 Game of the Week, Garner at Middle Creek, remained on schedule. The two teams are set to kick off at 7 p.m. in Apex. Our team is live there for tailgating activities, and highlights from that game will be shown during Friday Night Blitz tonight following our 11 p.m. newscast.
