Police ID motorcyclist who died in Fayetteville crash with bus on Cedar Creek Road

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — A man died Saturday afternoon after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a Fayetteville transit bus along Cedar Creek Road, police said.

The incident was reported just before 4:30 p.m. on Cedar Creek Road near Troy Drive in east Fayetteville, according to a Fayetteville Police Department news release.

The wreck involved a motorcycle and a Fayetteville Area System of Transit bus, officers said.

The bus stopped to unload passengers and the motorcyclist tried to change lanes to pass the bus, but instead crashed into the back of the bus, according to police.

The injured man who was on the motorcycle was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he died.

Police on Sunday identified the motorcyclist as John Wood, 60, of Fayetteville. Officers said his closest relative was contacted.

“The Fayetteville Police Department’s Traffic Unit is handling the investigation,” the release said.
