Suspect arrested in Raleigh hit-and-run that killed pedestrian on Buffaloe Road: Records

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — An arrest was made over the weekend in connection with a hit-and-run in Raleigh earlier this year that left a man dead, court records show.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, 32-year-old Detrick Arnold was found dead in the road of the 3300 block of Buffaloe Road around 3 a.m. on June 13.

Police said Arnold was struck by a large SUV that did not remain at the scene. At least one other vehicle hit Arnold while he was lying on the road.

A warrant filed by Raleigh police identifies 39-year-old Transito Ortiz Escareno as the suspect in the incident.

Ortiz was arrested on Sunday and charged with felony hit-and-run with death and driving while license revoked for impairment, according to court records.

According to court records, Ortiz was given a $50,000 secured bond. His first appearance in Wake County court is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
