CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — Three Army ROTC cadets with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill received a rare honor during their summer training, officials said.

UNC cadets Jackson Carmichael, Naomi Clatworthy, and Carson Vitt earned the RECONDO badge, which was awarded to the top 6% of the more than 5,500 cadets across the nation during the Cadet Summer Training at Fort Knox, according to university officials.
According to the university, the three cadets exceeded the standard on every tested event and earned a “first-time go” on all events, allowing them to earn RECONDO.

Officials said the events included physical fitness and walking with heavy gear, navigating the land, marksmanship, obstacle and rappel courses, warrior skills, leadership during a field training exercise and peer evaluations.
Cadets at UNC had the second-highest average score among the 275 ROTC programs in the nation during Cadet Summer Training, according to university officials.
