RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The captain with two Stanley Cup victories under his belt is staying in Raleigh for at least another year.

Carolina Hurricanes General Manager, Eric Tulsky, announced Tuesday night that the team signed forward and captain Jordan Staal to a one-year contract extension.
According to Canes management, the contract comes with a base salary of $900,000 and $4 million signing bonus. Staal also has the potential to make a little more than $5 million in performance bonuses on top of it all.

““Jordan is not only our captain, he’s the bedrock of the culture we’ve established in this organization,” said Tulsky in a statement sent to the media. “His leadership and on-ice performance throughout last season and especially in the playoffs was a primary factor in bringing the Stanley Cup back to Raleigh.”
The 38-year-old NHL veteran racked up 20 goals and 16 assists in the regular 2025-26 season. During the playoffs, he has eight goals and four assists for a total of 12 points. He also captured the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the Hurricanes’ second Stanley Cup victory.
