Zaxby’s employee charged with murder in deadly shooting at Fuquay-Varina restaurant: Warrant

FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. (WNCN) — An employee at a Zaxby’s in Fuquay-Varina is facing a murder charge following a deadly shooting at the restaurant Wednesday afternoon, a warrant shows.

According to the Fuquay-Varina Police Department, two men were shot at the Zaxby’s in the 1300 block of North Main Street around 5:40 p.m. One was pronounced dead after being taken the hospital. The second was transported to another hospital in stable condition.

An investigation determined one of the men confronted the other, who was a Zaxby’s employee, inside the restaurant. The two got into a physical fight, leading a gun being drawn and multiple shots being fired, according to Fuquay-Varina police.

A warrant filed by Fuquay-Varina police identifies Quanterius Avance Elliott as the man who died in the shooting and Otis Lee Johnson as the man who was injured.

Johnson, 18, of Fuquay-Varina is charged with murder in Elliott’s death. He was taken into custody on Thursday, according to court records.

According to court records, Johnson was not given bond. His first appearance in Wake County Court is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

CBS 17 spoke with Johnson’s parents after the shooting, who identified him as the Zaxby’s employee. They said the incident resulted from Johnson giving Elliott’s girlfriend, a co-worker, a ride on Tuesday night, which led to an earlier fight between the two men before Elliott confronted Johnson at the Zaxby’s the following day.
