RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — 19-year-old Faith Hedgepeth, a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, was found dead in her apartment on September 7, 2012.

Investigators found Hedgepeth’s body leaning against the bed and would later learn she was beaten with a Bacardi rum bottle.
Before she was killed, police said Hedgepeth and her roommate Karena Rosario visited Davis Library on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus about 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 6, 2012, and returned to the apartment on the border of Durham and Orange counties around 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 7, 2012.
Around 1 a.m. Sept. 7, 2012 according to police, Hedgepeth and Rosario returned to downtown Chapel Hill. They went to the Thrill bar on East Rosemary and then left there together at about 2:38 a.m.

Investigators think the two returned home together, and then around 4:30 a.m., Rosario left the apartment. At 11 a.m., Rosario reported finding Hedgepeth cold and unresponsive inside the apartment.
Miguel Enrique Salguero-Olivares was arrested on September 16, 2021. He was 28 at the time and was charged with first-degree murder.
There is one more evidentiary hearing scheduled for September 21, 2026.
That hearing is one week before the currently scheduled trial date of September 28, 2026.
