A weak cold front is approaching from the north today. This backdoor front will bring a chance for showers through much of the day, with a few thunderstorms possible this evening.

Rain coverage will remain scattered, meaning some locations could miss out entirely while others pick up several rounds of showers. The severe weather threat is very low to none. The main concern with any stronger storm would be an isolated downburst capable of producing brief gusty winds or minor wind damage.
The front will stall nearby, while a broad upper-level low to our south continues to pull moisture into the Southeast. This will keep low rain chances in the forecast through the middle of next week. Rain coverage will be isolated at best, with most locations staying dry during any given day.
Another front will move through late next week, bringing drier and cooler air to central North Carolina. Highs from Wednesday into next weekend are currently forecast to stay in the 70s, a much more noticeable taste of fall.
Perfect timing couldn’t be better. Astronomical fall officially begins Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 2:19 PM in Raleigh, marking the start of the fall season.

FRIDAY will be partly cloudy with scattered showers or storms. The high will be 94. Winds will be out of the southwest, changing to northeast at 5 to 10 miles per hour.
