PINEHURST, N.C. (WNCN) — A person died after an SUV and a golf cart collided in the Moore County town of Pinehurst on Thursday morning, police said.

The crash was reported just after 7:50 a.m. at the intersection of N.C. 5/Beulah Hill and Shaw roads, according to a Pinehurst Police Department news release.
The victim was a passenger in the golf cart and died at the scene, police said.
The golf cart driver was airlifted to a hospital after suffering serious injuries in the crash, according to officers.
The driver of the SUV was also taken to a nearby hospital but the extent of the injuries was not released.

“At this time, we are not releasing identifying information, including the deceased person’s name, age or gender,” officers said.

Police said an investigation is still underway by the Pinehurst Police Department Reconstruction Team.
“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the person who lost their life this morning, as well as everyone affected by this tragic crash,” said Pinehurst Police Chief Glen Webb.

Officers said they could not provide any information on Thursday about how the crash happened.
“Our officers are working carefully to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision, and we ask for patience as that investigation continues,” Webb added.
