RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Across North Carolina, gas prices have spiked nearly 50 cents per gallon on average over the last four weeks, while average per gallon diesel prices have gone up 90 cents.

Problems with crude oil supplies from the Middle East and Russia have driven up global prices — with the fuel markets interconnected.
Raleigh-area prices are up by 20 cents in just one week for a gallon of regular gas, according to the motorist club AAA.
The prices for diesel fuel over the U.S. have now hit record levels at $6.23 per gallon on average — with Raleigh-area prices topping that at $6.24.
North Carolina gas prices are still well below the national average by 30 cents.
Motorists can check online for Raleigh and Durham stations with the lowest gas prices.

The lowest gas prices across North Carolina can also be viewed online through Gas Buddy.
“Average gasoline and diesel prices rose in every state over the last week as geopolitical tensions escalated on multiple fronts, with friction between the U.S. and Iran, new hostilities in the Red Sea, and the shutdown of Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline all combining to jolt prices sharply higher,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
Gas prices in North Carolina include a state tax of 41 cents per gallon along with a federal tax of 18.4 cents per gallon.
