Coolest weather in months setting up across central NC

The coolest afternoon highs since back in May are in store for the next two days.

Although it’ll be much cooler, with highs in the upper 60s on Wednesday and Thursday, the trade-off will be clouds and showers until the sunshine returns on Friday. 

The final day of the week looks very nice, with lots of sun and highs in the lower 70s. The first weekend of fall looks just as spectacular, with sunshine and mid-70s on both days. 

A return to the lower 80s arrives the next week. But there are no signs of a return to the intense 90s. Only an isolated chance of showers will accompany the return to the 80s. 

In the tropics, Fay has weakened significantly and will fade away over the next few days. There’s a disturbance coming off Africa with a 30% chance for tropical formation over the next week. But models take any system to the north, posing no threat to the east coast. 

We’ve now gone the longest in a hurricane season without a hurricane since 1914. There are no signs of that changing anytime soon, with 68 days remaining in the official hurricane season.

FORECAST

WEDNESDAY will be mostly cloudy with showers and a storm possible. The high will be 69. The wind will be out of the northeast at 10 to 15 miles per hour.

OVERNIGHT will be cloudy with showers possible. The morning low will be 59. Winds will be out of the northeast at 10 miles per hour. 

THURSDAY will be mostly cloudy and cooler with lingering rain. The high will be 67. Winds will be out of the north at 10 to 15 miles per hour.
