Clear skies and dry air are settling in across central North Carolina as a powerful nor’easter strengthens along the East Coast.

Raleigh should see mostly sunny skies with highs near 78 degrees on Saturday and around 80 degrees on Sunday and Monday. Overnight lows will remain comfortable in the 60s.
The dry pattern will likely continue through much of next week. Clouds and moisture may begin to increase by the middle of the week, with temperatures warming back into the mid-80s. Rain chances could remain limited until a frontal boundary approaches later next week or beyond. For now, enjoy the sunshine and comfortable temperatures.
The weekend looks like some of the best weather we’ve seen in quite some time across central North Carolina.
The low-pressure system is pulling away from our area, allowing clouds to clear and cooler, drier air to remain in place. The system is a classic nor’easter, not a tropical storm.
Although it has developed a secluded warm core near its center, the storm remains an extratropical low and is getting its energy from the larger-scale atmospheric pattern rather than tropical processes. It is called a nor’easter because of the strong northeast winds it produces as it tracks north along the East Coast.

The storm is expected to reach a minimum central pressure near 980 millibars, making it a very strong storm but still well above the pressure levels of the most extreme nor’easters. For comparison, the 1993 Superstorm dropped to around 960 millibars as it moved up the East Coast.
Fortunately for central North Carolina, the storm’s position will help reinforce the dry northeast flow across the region. High pressure will build in behind it, keeping our weather quiet and comfortable through the weekend and into early next week.
