Overnight showers and storms will be possible. Rain chances remain high through Sunday morning with the chance of a strong storm or two. A marginal risk (level 1/5) of severe storms across the Sandhills on Saturday. The main concern is strong winds from any storms that move through the area in the afternoon and evening. Sunday, a marginal risk (level 1/5) for all of central NC damaging winds and an isolated tornado are the main concern.
Isaias is not forecast to move directly over central North Carolina. Instead, we’ll feel its effects through periods of rain as the system passes well to our west. Winds will be elevated through the weekend as well. Starting out of the northeast on Saturday and slowly shift to the southeast on Sunday. Winds of 10 to 20 miles per hour with gusts up over 30 are possible for the weekend.
The good news is that this looks like a fairly quick change in the weather. Once Isaias moves away, much of next week should turn drier, with highs generally in the 70s and 80s. That should set us up for improving weather heading into Thursday’s start of the NC State Fair. After a wet weekend, the forecast is looking much better for the start of fair season!
