Unsettled weather continues this week in central NC

The overall weather pattern remains fairly unsettled. Moisture continues streaming into the Carolinas while several weak areas of low pressure linger nearby, trapped between stronger areas of high pressure to the east and west.

That setup will keep periodic chances for scattered showers and thunderstorms in the forecast through much of the upcoming week.

Rain chances increase again for Monday as a boundary settles across central North Carolina, likely bringing the best opportunity in several days for more widespread afternoon and evening shower activity. Additional scattered storms remain possible Tuesday, although Wednesday may trend slightly drier for some areas.

A cold front could finally move through Thursday, helping to push some of the moisture out of the region and potentially bringing drier weather by Friday. Another system may approach next weekend, however, keeping rain chances from disappearing entirely.

Despite the return of sunshine at times, temperatures are expected to stay near to slightly below average through the end of May and the start of June. Highs will generally remain in the upper 70s to lower 80s, offering a break from the early-season heat seen earlier this month.
