Carolina lost the opening game of the series, but that was their only loss of the entire playoffs. Wednesday night, the Canes got three goals in a three-minute stretch. Sebastian Aho found the net for the first goal of the night — his first since the Ottawa series — and Jordan Staal followed a little more than a minute later to double the lead.
Logan Stankoven added his first goal of the series in the final seconds of the opening period to put Carolina ahead 3-0. Andrei Svechnikov capped the night’s scoring with a goal late in the final frame.
Montreal managed very few challenges against goalie Frederik Andersen, going scoreless on 17 shots on goal. The Canes had 43 shots on goal on the night, continuing a trend of peppering Montreal with shots every game.
