‘Started seeing zeroes’: Fayetteville woman describes moment she won $200,000

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — The latest big winner in the N.C. Education Lottery may still be in shock.

“I still don’t think it has hit me yet,” said Jessica Cruse of Fayetteville on Monday when she came to Raleigh to claim her winnings.

Cruse said a celebration erupted in her home on Saturday as she scratched away on her $5 Double Your Money ticket, and realized she won the top prize of $200,000.

“I started seeing zeroes and I was in shock,” she recalled. “My daughter was screaming.”

Cruse bought the winning ticket from the Tiger Mart on Raeford Road in Fayetteville. Her full cash-out was $144,021, after state and federal taxes were withheld.

A new car, likely a Honda or Toyota, is on the horizon for Cruse. He also told lottery officials she plans to use the rest of the money left to support her family.

The same game that landed her a $200,000 has one top prize that remains to be claimed.
