BUXTON, N.C. (WAVY/WNCN)– Cape Hatteras National Seashore is urging visitors to avoid the beach and stay out of the water this week after yet another home fell into the ocean on Tuesday night.

Officials say the unoccupied house, in the 46000 block of Ocean Drive in Boxton, collapsed and left varying amounts of hazardous debris along the shoreline.
High surf came ashore, flooding streets early Tuesday night before the home fell.
The Outer Banks has seen 20 homes collapse since September 2025, with six falling into the ocean on September 30.
This is the fifth home to collapse in Buxton in 2026 after four fell during snow in early February.

In mid-May a home was torn down and debris was removed before it was able to collapse.
Officials warned people to stay off beaches and out of the water from the Village of Buxton south to the Cape Point
As a safety precaution, all beach access from the north end of Buxton through the lifeguarded beach is temporarily closed.

Park rangers are assessing the area.
