Wake Forest SWAT team wins state competition, advances to nationals

According to Town of Wake Forest officials, the Wake Forest Police Department SWAT Team earned top honors and won first place at the 2026 NC Justice Academy SWAT Competition at The Range Complex in Autryville last week.

During the two-day competition, according to town officials, nine teams participated in a series of challenging scenarios that evaluated teamwork, precision, communication, and problem-solving under pressure.

The physical and tactical exercises included a three-and-a-half mile team run in SWAT gear, marksmanship, and strength-based tasks ranging from moving sandbags, pulling sleds, and carrying kettlebells, according to town officials.

Town officials said the Wake Forest SWAT team placed first in five of the eight events.

According to town officials, the Wake Forest SWAT Team finished second last year, according to town officials.

In this year’s competition, according to town officials, Wake Forest beat out the Fayetteville Police Department, which finished second, and the Raleigh Police Department, which finished third.
