RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A three-week investigation into who was behind the wheel in a deadly pedestrian hit-and-run has led to a suspect’s arrest, according to the Raleigh Police Department.
CBS 17 previously reported that 54-year-old Nicole Shawnette White was attempting to cross outside of a cross walk in the 3100 block of New Bern Avenue, in front of the Wake Inn, when she was struck on May 15 around 9 p.m., according to an initial investigation.
White was transported by an EMS unit to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries, police said. As for the driver, that individual took off, prompting a search for the vehicle and suspect.

On Friday, investigators said 25-year-old Isaiah Deshon Gray had been identified as the driver by the RPD crash reconstruction unit. That unit obtained both the cell phone and the vehicle that were “used in the crash,” and noted that the vehicle still had visible damage to it from the hit-and-run weeks prior.

Raleigh police coordinated with the Wayne County Probation Office to arrest Gray. He was charged with felony hit-and-run as well as a probation violation.
“We express our gratitude to the Wayne County Probation Officers for their collaboration in locating and apprehending the suspect. This partnership demonstrates the Raleigh Police Department’s commitment to working alongside other law enforcement agencies to hold individuals accountable for violent crimes in our city,” an RPD spokesperson said.
The crash remains under investigation. As of Friday night, Gray is being held at the Wayne County Jail, where he will await his extradition back to Raleigh.
