OMAHA, Neb. (WNCN) — Just days after North Carolina and West Virginia first played in the 2026 Men’s College World Series, they’ll face off again.

The No. 5 Tar Heels (52-21-1) and No. 16. Mountaineers (47-16) will square off Wednesday afternoon in Omaha. First pitch at Charles Schwab field is scheduled for 2 p.m. Folger Boaz will get the start for North Carolina.

UNC last played since Sunday, when they defeated West Virginia 5-2. That win was the second for the Tar Heels in this College World Series following their victory over Ole Miss on Friday. In Sunday’s game, Gavin Gallaher had two RBI and scored two runs. Ryan Lynch pitched four and two-thirds innings for UNC, giving up five hits and two earned runs while striking out two and issuing two walks.

The Mountaineers bounced back from that loss to rout Troy 12-0 in an elimination game Tuesday. In that win, Gavin Kelly drove in four runs, including a three-run home run in the sixth inning. West Virginia sent out four pitchers who combined for 13 strikeouts in the game.

If UNC wins, they will move out of the double elimination round and on to the College World Series championship this weekend. If West Virginia wins, the two teams will face off for a third time on Thursday in an elimination game.
