ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. (WNCN) — Two people are dead following a double shooting in Roanoke Rapids early Monday morning, police said.

According to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department, officers responded to a report of shots fired at the intersection of Vance and 11th Street West. They found a man and a woman, who died from the injuries they sustained in the incident.
An officer near the scene saw a vehicle flee the area. Following a pursuit, the driver of the vehicle was detained about a mile and a half away in the Lincoln Heights area.

Police have not announced any charges as of Monday morning. The driver and the victims have not been identified.

The investigation remains ongoing. Police said there is no evidence of an ongoing threat to the public.
