North Carolina woman plans to buy house with $1 million lottery win

ANSON COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — Kimberly Staton, of Polkton, bought a $30 scratch-off and won $1 million, according to an NC Education Lottery news release.

“I’ve always said I was going to win one of those million-dollar prizes,” Staton said. “I felt like it was for me.”

She bought her winning MAX-A-MILLION ticket from the 7-Eleven on Unionville Indian Trail Road West in Indian Trail.

“I told everybody I work with,” she said.

When Staton arrived at lottery headquarters on Friday, she had a decision to make.

She could choose to receive the prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000.

She chose the lump sum of $600,000.

After required state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $432,068.

She plans to use her winnings to buy a house.
