Severe thunderstorm warning issued Friday for parts of central NC

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a severe thunderstorm warning Friday for parts of central North Carolina.

At 5:38 p.m., the alert was issued for northwestern Moore County, southwestern Chatham County and southeastern Randolph County due to a severe thunderstorm that was spotted near the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro. The warning is expected to be in effect until 6:30 p.m.

Forecasters said the main hazards are wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and possibly penny-sized hail.
