DUNN, N.C. (WNCN) — A child is dead after a fire broke out in an apartment complex in Dunn late Saturday night during the Fourth of July, officials said.

According to the Dunn Fire Department, the incident happened just before 11 p.m. at the Ashbrooke Apartments on East Pope Street.
Four apartments, three of which were occupied when the fire broke out, were damaged by the blaze, according to officials.

Officials said a child died in the fire. Two additional people were taken to the hospital.
The incident is under investigation by the Halifax County Fire Marshal. A cause has not been determined as of Monday morning.
