PIKEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — A woman from Wayne County couldn’t contain her excitement after realizing she had won big on a scratch-off lottery ticket.

Cassandra Joyner of Pikeville purchased a $30 $100,000 Cash Payday ticket from 919 Wireless and Vape on Goldsboro Street in Pikesville. She scratched it in the store with her partner and discovered she had won one of the game’s top prizes of $100,000.

“We were doing our happy dance and screaming,” Joyner remembered. “Then we cried.”

Joyner went to North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Tuesday to claim her prize. She took home $72,018 after the required state and federal taxes.
She said she plans to use the money to pay off bills.

“Trust me, this was needed,” said Joyner.
According to NC Lottery, the $100,000 Cash Payday game made its debut in March with 80 top prizes of $100,000. After Joyner’s win, 59 of those remain to be claimed.
