WILSON, N.C. (WNCN) — A “critical incident” in downtown Wilson prompted a large police response Monday morning as officers closed off several streets while conducting an investigation, officials said.

The Wilson Police Department announced the incident just before 11 a.m., but has not released details about what occurred.
Police said there is no threat to the public, but urged people to avoid the downtown area while the investigation continues.

A CBS 17 crew at the scene observed a heavy law enforcement presence, with officers from multiple agencies positioned throughout downtown. Crime scene tape blocked portions of several streets and sidewalks as investigators worked within a large secured area.

Authorities have not announced whether anyone was injured or if anyone has been taken into custody.
As of late Monday morning, Wilson police had not released any additional information. CBS 17 has reached out to investigators and will update this story as more details become available.
