Motorcyclist killed, 3 injured after tow truck crash on Capital Boulevard in Raleigh, police say

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — One motorcyclist was killed and three other people were hospitalized following a crash involving a tow truck in Raleigh early Friday morning, police said.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, officers responded around 2:35 a.m. to a reported crash near the intersection of Capital Boulevard and Trawick Road.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicates the tow truck driver was attempting to make a U-turn at a red light when the truck pulled into the path of oncoming traffic. A sedan and two motorcycles then collided with the tow truck.

One motorcyclist was killed in the crash. A second motorcyclist was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to survive, according to police.

Two people who were inside the sedan were also hospitalized. The passenger suffered life-threatening injuries, while the driver was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening, police said.

The tow truck driver was arrested following the crash. Police said they are not yet releasing the charges because they are still pending.

The outbound lanes of Capital Boulevard near Trawick Road remain closed as investigators work the scene. Police said the closure is expected to last another two to three hours.

The crash remains under investigation.
