Tornado warning issued for parts of Edgecombe, Halifax counties: NWS

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A tornado warning has been issued for parts of two counties in central North Carolina Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service in Raleigh said.

The NWS issued the the tornado warning for northeastern Edgecombe County and southeastern Halifax County at 2:50 p.m.

According to NWS, the warning is due to a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado being located eight miles west of Scotland Neck and 12 miles south of Halifax County.

The thunderstorm is moving southeast at 20 m.p.h., according to NWS.

The NWS said the storm is expected to reach Scotland Neck around 2:55 p.m.

According to NWS, the warning will be in effect until 3:15 p.m.
