CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WJZY) — Carowinds’ signature ride, Fury 325, has reopened, park officials announced Tuesday.

The world’s tallest giga-coaster was shut down since July 7 after a routine maintenance inspection reportedly uncovered a foundation issue on the ride. Parent company Six Flags says Fury resumed normal operation following the successful completion of a “comprehensive foundation-related improvement and inspection.”
“Unforgettable experiences begin with uncompromising safety, and every decision throughout this process was guided by that commitment,” the company said in a statement.
Earlier this month, Six Flags says staff detected a slight change in the foundation surrounding one the ride’s support columns.

Working alongside experienced engineers, maintenance professionals, third-party experts and the North Carolina Department of Labor, the park completed a series of proactive measures and complete all necessary corrections to verify that Fury 325 meets and exceeds all safety and operational requirements.
“Since this issue came to our attention, the N.C. Department of Labor has worked with Carowinds, its engineering teams, and our own consulting engineers to review the repairs and supporting engineering analysis,” NC Labor Secretary Luke Farley said “Our inspectors were on-site to verify that all necessary repair work was completed. Additionally, our inspectors conducted a full re-inspection of the ride before issuing a certificate of operation.”

The ride was previously closed in 2023 after a crack was found.
