Adopt one, get one free: Durham shelter holds cat adoption promotion

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Adopt one cat, get one free.

That’s the promotion being offered by the Animal Protection Society of Durham this week.

During the promotion from Wednesday to Saturday, anyone who adopts one cat or kitten will receive a second with the adoption fee waived.

According to the shelter, all cats and kittens available for adoption are spayed or neutered and have received age-appropriate vaccinations. The standard adoption counseling and approval process will apply while the promotion is in effect.

The Animal Protection Society noted summer is one of the busiest times for animal shelters because kitten season brings additional cats and kittens into their care.

Officials said adopting two cats will give the Durham shelter the needed space for new animal arrivals, while providing families with twice the amount of companionship.

“Many cats and kittens thrive with a feline companion,” Animal Protection Society of Durham interim Executive Director Stacy Bluth said in a statement. “Whether it’s bonded adult cats or playful kitten siblings, bringing home two can make the transition easier for the animals while giving families years of companionship and entertainment. At the same time, every adoption helps us make room for more animals that need our care.”
