PHILADELPHIA (WGHP) — After weeks of speculation, NBA star LeBron James announced he is signing with the Philadelphia 76ers.

James, 41, is the NBA’s all-time leading scorer and considered to be one of the greatest players in the history of basketball. In June, he announced his intent to leave the Los Angeles Lakers after an 8-year stint with the team.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that James is signing a 2-year, $8 million contract with a player option. For comparison, he made nearly $53 million last season.
“This is my last decision. I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family. What am I really playing for at this point?” James posted on X. “I still want to sacrifice. I still want to work. I still want to grind. I still want to compete, to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship.

“I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time.”
James will join fellow All-Star Jaylen Brown, who was traded to the 76ers in June, as well as the team’s prior core of All-Stars Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid, alongside promising young guard VJ Edgecombe.
The 76ers have not won an NBA championship since 1983 and have not advanced out of the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs since 2001.
