CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — Prosecutors in the upcoming murder trial tied to the killing of a UNC-Chapel Hill student more than a decade ago want a judge to seal all pretrial motions, saying extensive media coverage could impact a jury, court documents show.

Miguel Salguero-Olivares is charged in connection with the 2012 killing of Faith Hedgepeth at her off-campus UNC apartment. He is scheduled to go to trial in September.
In a recent motion, prosecutors said the high-profile case has generated extensive media coverage and public discussion for more than a decade. They are asking a judge to schedule a hearing on the motion and then seal all pretrial motions, meaning they would not be publicly available ahead of the trial.

Prosecutors argued the move would help protect potential jurors from being exposed to too much information about the case.
Most recently, the defense moved to bring two out-of-state witnesses to testify at trial, saying they are imperative to uncovering the truth. In one motion, the defense suggested Hedgepeth’s former roommate, Karena Rosario, is either withholding information or lying to investigators.
