RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Eleven permanent scooter and bicycle parking areas have been added to Dix Park in Raleigh, officials said Monday.

According to City of Raleigh officials, the new parking areas were created through a partnership among Raleigh Transportation, Lime, and Spin following a three-month 2025 pilot program to determine whether people would use shared scooters and bicycles.
As part of the pilot, according to officials, city staff and Dix Park identified 16 possible locations for scooter and bicycle parking based on where people visit, gather, and travel at the park. Trip data showed that 11 locations were used most and became permanent parking areas.
Shared scooters were not allowed at Dix Park before the pilot, according to city officials.

“Lime is proud to partner with the City of Raleigh and Dix Park to make shared micromobility a permanent part of the park experience,” Lime Deputy Regional Head of Government Relations, US South Carol Antunez said in a statement. “As Raleigh continues to grow, we’re excited to help connect more people to the places they love without relying on a car for every trip.”
To support the project, city officials said they added parking areas that appear in the Lime and Spin apps, ground stencils and signs to mark each parking area, and 16 new racks at four locations for people riding their own bicycles and scooters.

“Our partnership with the City of Raleigh and Dix Park shows what is possible when we work together to improve transportation options,” Spin Government Partnerships Manager Lindsay Gutierrez said in a statement. “We’ve worked together to design geofenced parking corrals suited for this high-traffic public space and the results speak for themselves: a 95% compliance rate for riders parking in designated areas.”

The project also features Tulip Cycle Delineators, traffic markers with flower designs. More will be installed at the remaining locations by the end of the year, according to city officials.
According to officials, Raleigh is the first city in North America to use the tulip delineators.
“Dix Park is the largest park in downtown Raleigh,” Raleigh Active Transportation Planner Hannah Dos Santos said in a statement. “We want it to be just as easy to reach by bike or scooter as it is by car, bus, or foot.”
