Deep tropical moisture continues to move into the region, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms through at least the middle of the week. While there won’t be continuous rain, periods of heavy downpours are likely each day, and some storms could produce torrential rainfall capable of causing localized flash flooding. Temperatures will also stay well below the typical early August heat, with highs holding mainly in the lower to middle 80s thanks to the clouds and rain.

Tuesday and Wednesday continue the unsettled pattern. Washout weather is not expected, as coverage will be scattered at worst. Rainfall may still be heavy at times, and areas that receive multiple rounds of storms could pick up several inches of rain by midweek. While the primary concern is flooding from heavy rainfall, frequent lightning and gusty winds will accompany the stronger thunderstorms.
By Thursday and into next weekend, rain chances become more scattered as the atmosphere gradually transitions back toward a typical summertime pattern. Highs will slowly climb back into the upper 80s, with a mix of sunshine and afternoon thunderstorms expected each day. Long range: there are signs that heat returns in the middle of the month. Enjoy the seasonable start to the month while it lasts.
