RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Central North Carolina has been enjoying a prolonged break from intense summer heat. It’s been warm and humid, but nowhere near as hot as the first half of July was when we saw several days of 100 degrees or hotter.

It’s now been 18 days since our last high of 95 degrees or above, with only two days barely climbing to 90 degrees since July 23.
That makes the longest stretch of consecutive days of July into August with temperatures no hotter than 90 degrees since 2014.
So far this summer, we’ve seen more days of 90 degrees than below 90 degrees, but the two aren’t that far apart. Since the official start of the season on June 21, Raleigh has notched 26 days above 90 degrees, including 103 degrees on July 4. Not far behind are days less than 90 degrees, including a high of 73 degrees on July 25.

But odds are we aren’t done with intense heat this summer.
Since 1887, Raleigh has hit 100 degrees or hotter as late as October 3, 95 or above through October 6 and 90 or greater as late as October 10.
Thankfully, there aren’t any days in the middle to upper 90s in our near future, but the outlook does call for above-average weather making a comeback. And, yes, that will unfortunately include summer-like humidity as well.
