STEDMAN, N.C. (WNCN) — An officer was dragged by a dirt bike while attempting to conduct an arrest in Cumberland County Wednesday afternoon, police said.

According to the Stedman Police Department, officers were conducting a driver license checkpoint on Carol Street when a dirt bike approached the checkpoint and fled from the officers just before 5 p.m. A chase ensued, leading to the dirt bike crashing on Beaver Dam Road, about two miles from Carol Street.
When an officer attempted to arrest the driver, according to Stedman police, the driver got back on the dirt bike and dragged the officer.

The officer was taken the hospital and released after being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to Stedman police.
Police said the owner of the dirt bike has been identified. No arrests or charges have been announced as of late Thursday morning.
