RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A young man disappeared on a road trip to North Carolina, and nearly ten years later his family is still looking for his body.

Christopher “Cole” Thomas was 22-years-old, and originally from Florida. He graduated at the top of his class, and was studying at the University of Florida when he decided he wanted a change of pace. That’s when he started working as an electrical apprentice at a commercial solar farm in Minnesota.
Thanksgiving Weekend of 2016, Cole went on a trip to North Carolina with his coworkers Jeremy and Julian. They did not have their drivers licenses, so they asked Cole to drive.
But in the early morning hours of November 25th, they say Cole stopped the car near downtown Benson, ran off and was never seen again.
They reported Cole missing that night. But as the investigation got underway, their stories started to change.

Court records show that Jeremy and Julian say they were driving to North Carolina to buy meth. After the sale, the drugs were thrown out of the car window.
Now, investigators are considering this a drug deal gone wrong. Four men were charged in connection with Cole’s disappearance. But in 2019, the Johnston County District Attorney dropped those charges, saying the move was to avoid compromising future homicide prosecutions.
