RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — More record heat is possible Wednesday in central North Carolina with highs expected to be in the 90s for the fourth day in a row.

There have already been three record highs since Sunday, but Wednesday could be the last chance this week thanks to Thursday’s cold front.

The forecast high on Wednesday is 95° in the Triangle, and the record high is 96° set back in 2022. There have already been 10 record highs this year in the Triangle, and Wednesday would be the 11th.

The next cold front arrives late Thursday, bringing with it a chance for rain and a few storms, mainly late in the afternoon and evening. Highs on Thursday will be slightly cooler, topping out in the upper 80s. That is still well above our average high of 81° for this time of year.

As the cold front drifts south on Friday, temperatures will be a little cooler, but the front is going to lift back north, allowing the muggy air and warm temperatures to push back in for the holiday weekend.

This means Memorial Day Weekend will be warm and muggy with scattered chances for rain each day. While it won’t be a washout of a weekend, have indoor backups for any outdoor plans!
