Man shot on Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh Monday night; Police searching for gray SUV

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A man was shot in downtown Raleigh Monday, police said, and the search for a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident is underway.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, the shooting happened in the 200 block of Fayetteville Street near Market Plaza around 8:46 p.m. Witnesses told police that a gray Mercedes SUV pulled up near a man in that area, and the man and those inside the vehicle began to have a verbal exchange. A popping noise was then heard by witnesses, then the SUV drove away.

The victim walked over to Wilmington Street, where police found him with a gunshot wound to his right ankle or foot area. He was taken to WakeMed to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

No suspects are in custody as of 10 p.m. Monday night, the department said, but police are seeking the gray Mercedes SUV that witnesses saw at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.

Monday night’s shooting is the second one along Fayetteville Street in less than 48 hours. In the early hours of Sunday morning, four people were shot at Alive Nightclub, located two blocks away in the 400 block of Fayetteville Street. There is no known connection between the two incidents.
