RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – It’s been nearly 26 years since four-year-old Tristen “Buddy” Myers disappeared, and investigators are still searching for answers.

Myers was living with his great-aunt and uncle in their Roseboro home back in 2000. Investigators say he was energetic and full of life, but was struggling with some behavioral problems.
After an incident in the home, Myers had to spend a week at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville. He was eventually sent home with a clean bill of health.
On October 5, 2000, his great-aunt Donna Myers took him to his follow-up appointment. When they came home, Donna took a nap on the couch while Myers was watching TV and playing with his action figures.
When she woke up, Buddy was missing, and so were the family’s two dogs.
Donna searched the neighborhood, then called 911, prompting the largest missing persons search in Sampson County history. Local law enforcement, K9 officers, dive teams, the FBI, the SBI, and even units from the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division all responded.

But after four days of searching, nothing turned up. There was no sign of Myers.
Then on day five of the search, one of the family’s dogs returned home, clean and fed. Search efforts reignited, but once again nothing turned up.
On day ten of the search, the family’s second dog returned home, also in pristine condition. Investigators launched another search effort, but no evidence of Myers was found.
Tips have continued to pour in over the years, and people have come forward claiming to be Myers. However, DNA evidence ruled them out.
