ROCKWELL, N.C. (WJZY) \u2014 A Rowan County teenager is on the \u201cbase-path\u201d to\u00a0recovery\u00a0after his heart suddenly stopped during a baseball game.\u00a0<\/p>

Bryson Blanton\u2019s family,\u00a0friends\u00a0and team gathered at his home field\u00a0Wednesday\u00a0night to offer prayers and support \u2014 and be \u201cBryson Strong.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Family members say tests done earlier in the day are encouraging and showing positive results.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One of Bryson\u2019s baseball coaches\u00a0re-lived\u00a0what he believes were a few of his best plays during a Saturday game.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThat boy comes out next, ball is hit to him\u2026 sliding play\u2026 catches it, three outs, run doesn\u2019t score,\u201d he recalls. \u201cHe\u2019s on\u00a0deck. JZ gets on base, boy \u2014 one pitch, second pitch, caps that\u2026 Like,\u00a0great hit.\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0on first base,\u00a0\u2018get there, get there, get there,\u2019\u00a0that boy hustled his butt off.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

It was just moments before\u00a0Bryon\u00a0suffered\u00a0a\u00a0cardiac arrest while rounding second base during the game in Charlotte. His parents are thanking the off-duty Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police\u00a0officer who ran in to perform CPR \u2014 saving their son.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMy heart sank in my cause it was like he was one of my own just like the rest of those kids,\u201d said his former 8\/9-under\u00a0baseball coach Dusty Safrit.\u00a0\u201cWhen we spend time out here on the field, we really, really connect.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bryson\u2019s community put together small decals that say \u201cBryson Strong\u201d \u2014 another way the community is coming together to raise money for the family as Bryson continues to\u00a0recover\u00a0and medical bills\u00a0mount.\u00a0<\/p>

Safrit was joined by Bryson\u2019s family, friends,\u00a0teammates\u00a0and coaches between the lines to celebrate as the teen recovers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Safrit helped organize the vigil, saying they\u00a0know\u00a0Bryson\u00a0could feel their energy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI often tell the players, during the game, during practice, positive energy is contagious, that it really can affect the outcome of not just the game but life in general,\u201d Safrit said.\u00a0\u201cEverything you do. If you put positive energy into it, then you can have a bigger effect than you realize.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

There was even more energy after the prayer \u2014 with a surprise facetime visit from Bryson.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t realize how many people you meet along the way playing ball,\u201d said his grandmother, Reta Parson.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery time you talk to him, he\u2019s moving his hands or\u00a0speak, letting us know he\u2019s here in this he years\u2026\u00a0He hears us,\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0for sure,\u201d his father, Randy Blanton, said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has zero brain damage from the off-duty CMPD officer that reacted as quickly as he did, his lungs are filled up, all of his vital organs are completely back to normal, healed. Now\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0just waiting\u00a0on\u00a0the big test, which is tonight and tomorrow,\u201d his father said.\u00a0<\/p>
