RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) \u2014 A ceremonial topping off ceremony marked a milestone in the ongoing construction of the new Red Hat Amphitheater Tuesday afternoon, which is set to be open in time for the 2027 concert season.<\/p>

Work on the new music venue has continued over the past year. When it opens, concert goers can expect a larger stage, more amenities, and the potential for hundreds of more seats.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s great,\u201d Raleigh Mayor Janet Cowell. \u201cI live in downtown, a few blocks away, so I get to see it all and it\u2019s really exciting. You can just see from this infrastructure right here how much bigger it is than the existing one.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the fortunate side effects of a drought is the rain has not gotten in the way,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

In 2024, the City Council voted to relocate the popular music venue a block south, allowing it to stay downtown, while also making way for future expansion of the Raleigh Convention Center.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is spurring other investment and totally transforming the southern end of downtown,\u201d Cowell said.<\/p>

\u201cWe\u2019re incredibly excited,\u201d said Downtown Raleigh Alliance President and CEO Bill King, who says businesses around the amphitheater can see double their typical crowds on show nights,<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause the venue is embedded in downtown, a lot of people really do go out to eat and drink before or after, which is very different than the other venues in the region,\u201d King said. \u201cMost of the other venues in the region are a little bit more further out.\u201d<\/p>\n

The existing Red Hat Amphitheater will be demolished at the end of this concert season to make way for a ballroom at the Convention Center.<\/p>
