We met up with comedians Nicole Kerbs<\/strong> and Randall Moore<\/strong> at Queen City Grounds<\/strong> for a little coffee talk.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut if there\u2019s anything else you kind of want to bring up,\u201d Kerbs told Moore, ordering java and prepping for a casual conversation. Only this one\u2019s on camera.<\/p>\n

\u201cReady, Freddy?\u201d asked Kerbs.<\/p>\n

Later, up on the rooftop at The Refinery, Kerbs is almost ready to roll.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t mind me and my madness, sorry,\u201d she says, positioning her equipment to get a great angle with the Queen City skyline.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got [to] make sure this camera is on,\u201d Kerbs said just before show time.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd my guest today is Randall Moore,\u201d she begins.<\/p>\n

In March, she launched her YouTube series \u201cCharlotte Comedians Getting Coffee\u2026 in Charlotte.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n

\u201cI wanted to find a way to showcase not only the comedy scene but also the comedians behind it,\u201d Kerbs says.<\/p>\n

\u201cI interview local Charlotte comedians at local Charlotte coffee shops to talk about how they started in their comedy career, what they\u2019re working on, and some of the trials and tribulations they\u2019ve run through,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a very active member of the Charlotte comedy community. I have seen so many of these comedians hustling every week,\u201d Kerbs says.<\/p>\n

As she interviews funny man Moore, the cup of Joe is just an icebreaker.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn iced latte with caramel and whole milk,\u201d he describes. \u201cIt\u2019s delicious.\u201d<\/p>\n

The questions range from the choice of microphone to the personal side of pursuing comedy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWho would you say is your celebrity doppelganger?\u201d Kerbs asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cKimbo Slice,\u201d Moore answered.<\/p>\n

There you have it, the series is a slice of comic life.<\/p>\n

When Moore first took the plunge at an open mic night in Gastonia four years ago, laughter ensued.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat releases a little bit of dopamine or serotonin for us, so I think we\u2019re a little bit addicted to it,\u201d Moore said.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone does it for different reasons, and also everybody\u2019s background influence their comedy style and the way that they approach things,\u201d Kerbs told Queen City News.<\/p>\n

\u201cWould you rather do a show at a one-horse town biker bar or like a super affluent country club in Ballantyne?\u201d she asked Moore.<\/p>

\u201cOoh, Biker bar,\u201d he answered<\/p>\n

After moving to Charlotte, Kerbs began doing improv to meet new friends.<\/p>\n

We can\u2019t leave out the fact that she also does a fun impersonation of actress Jennifer Coolidge.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to narrow your eyes,\u201d she said, becoming Coolidge. \u201cAnd it\u2019s just a lot of like, \u2018Oh, I really want a hot dog real bad.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Kerbs has lots of material as a Filipino American woman living in the South.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n

\u201cSo, my white friends have been calling me their brown friend,\u201d she told a crowd. \u201cAnd my brown friends keep calling me their white friend. So, I feel like someone\u2019s diversity hire either way.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cObservational,\u201d she says of her style. \u201cSpoken though the perspective of a very quirky, socially awkward mixed brown girl kind of things, so.\u201d<\/p>\n

The one-on-one conversations in her series reveal local comedy origin stories and the challenges they face along the way.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlways like a balancing act,\u201d said Moore, who told Kerbs why he can\u2019t say yes to every gig.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have three small kids at home, so it is difficult to go out every night to do comedy. Because then my wife has to put everybody to bed, and that\u2019s like not great for our marriage,\u201d Moore said.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven though see them week after week, they surprise me with things I didn\u2019t know about them,\u201d says Kerbs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat would you say are some of the cool things about the Charlotte comedy community, or things we do well?\u201d she asked her guest.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of the veteran comics that have been around for a minute are really good about being supportive of the new people that come up,\u201d Moore says.<\/p>\n

Moore is confident that nothing he says on \u201cCharlotte Comedians Getting Coffee\u2026 in Charlotte\u201d will be held against him.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe told me she wouldn\u2019t use it any sort of deposition or anything. Like if it comes up in a court case I think I\u2019m fine, haha,\u201d he joked.<\/p>

Kerbs can vouch that he\u2019s a stand-up guy.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been a really endearing kind of experience,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n
