FORT MILL, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) \u2014 The suspect shot by York County law enforcement while serving a\u00a0warrant Tuesday has died, South Carolina Law Enforcement\u00a0Division\u00a0reported\u00a0Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The York County Sheriff\u2019s Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit and The York County Multi-Agency Drug Enforcement Unit were\u00a0attempting\u00a0to serve a warrant on\u00a074-year-old\u00a0Yves Venne\u00a0at an apartment complex\u00a0located\u00a0on Clydesdales Court in Fort Mill, SLED officials said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to the sheriff\u2019s office, authorities were serving Venne an \u2018Internet Crimes Against Children\u2019 warrant. He was a jazz pianist.<\/p>\n

Rock Hill Police officers who are part of the units\u00a0allegedly\u00a0encountered Venne in the apartment armed with an object later determined to be a metal tire iron. During the encounter, officers shot him.\u00a0\u00a0Venne was taken to the Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, where he was pronounced dead. No law enforcement officers were injured.<\/p>\n

The York County Coroner says the autopsy and toxicology will be completed next week with results pending. <\/p>

On Tuesday, law enforcement at the scene told Queen City that the suspect fired shots at police, who then returned fire.<\/p>\n

The death is under investigation by South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the York County Coroner\u2019s Office. SLED conducts law enforcement officer involved shooting investigations at the request of the agency involved in the incident or the agency with jurisdiction.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This is the first officer involved shooting for the Rock Hill Police Department this year, after one occured in 2025.<\/p>\n

SLED agents will conduct interviews with all potential witnesses in this matter. Further, SLED will collect all relevant evidence and will forensically test such evidence as needed.<\/p>
