RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) \u2014 An air quality alert was issued for more than 20 North Carolina counties on Friday, including several in the Triangle area, the National Weather Service said.<\/p>

According to the weather service office in Raleigh, high levels of ozone were reported in various North Carolina counties.<\/p>\n

In the Greensboro area, a code orange air quality action day was issued until midnight on Friday by the Forsyth County Environmental Affairs Department in Winston-Salem.<\/p>\n

In the Triangle region, the code orange alert is in effect until 8 p.m.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn Air Quality Action Day means that ground level ozone concentrations within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards,\u201d the National Weather Service said in the alert.<\/p>

The orange alert for central North Carolina includes Person, Granville, Orange, Durham, Franklin, Wake, Johnston, Harnett, Cumberland, and Sampson counties.<\/p>\n

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality in Raleigh issued the alert for central North Carolina.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in the Charlotte area, a code orange alert was issued for Rowan, Mecklenburg, and Cabarrus counties until 8 p.m.<\/p>
