NASHVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) \u2014 The Nash County Sheriff\u2019s Office helped the Robeson County Sheriff\u2019s Office and Lumberton Police Department make an arrest in connection with the murder of a missing woman.<\/p>\n

According to the sheriff\u2019s office, the investigation began on June 3 after 68-year-old Nancy Ellen Lowery of Lumberton was reported missing by her family.<\/p>\n

The investigation led Robeson County Sheriff\u2019s Office and Lumberton Police Department detectives to an area near 7th Street Road and John Henry Lee Road, where Lowery was found dead. As the investigation progressed, detectives also found Lowery\u2019s car near a cemetery on Highway 41 north and Moore\u2019s Lane in Lumberton.<\/p>\n

According to the Nash County Sheriff\u2019s Office, the car was burned.<\/p>\n

Detectives identified 37-year-old Anthony Ray McDonald of Lubmerton as the suspect, the sheriff\u2019s office said. McDonald was arrested at his home after taking investigators on a brief foot chase.<\/p>\n

McDonald is being charged with first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, larceny of a motor vehicle, arson, and altering, destroying or stealing evidence.<\/p>\n

The Nash County Sheriff\u2019s Office said McDonald is being held at the Robeson County Sheriff\u2019s Office without bond.<\/p>\n

\u201cNancy Lowery did not deserve to lose her life in such a tragic and senseless manner,\u201d Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said. \u201cOn behalf of the Robeson County Sheriff\u2019s Office, we extend our deepest condolences and prayers to the family and loved ones of Nancy Lowery during this difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Nash County Sheriff\u2019s Office Aviation Divisions helped with the investigation in Lowery\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

The Robeson County Sheriff\u2019s Office said the investigation is still ongoing, with anyone who may have information being asked to call the sheriff\u2019s office at 910-671-3100.<\/p>\n
