CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CAROLINA SPORTS LIVE) \u2014 Nearly three decades later, WNBA pioneer Kym Hampton still has nightmares about playing in Charlotte.<\/p>

\u201cBattles,\u201d she smiles. \u201cOh my god battles.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clearly, the Sting left an impression. But as you might have guessed, she wasn\u2019t the only person they affected.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople are hungry for it,\u201d explained former Sting forward Tracy Reid. \u201cThey want the Sting back.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been 20 years since the Queen City\u2019s first and only WNBA team played its last game, but its memory is alive and well.<\/p>\n

Today, fans old and new drove that point home, showing up for an autograph session with Hampton and some former Sting players, just prior to Saturday\u2019s Charlotte Crown game at Bojangles Coliseum.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has all the feels,\u201d remarked former Sting Guard, now head coach of UNC-Asheville, Tynesha Lewis. \u201cThe opportunity to come back to Charlotte, it\u2019s a great day.\u201d<\/p>

It was like old times, especially with professional women\u2019s basketball back in the Queen City.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese women can flat out play,\u201d said Lewis. \u201cThese are the type of players you want your kids to see. If you can see it. You can be it.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s as if the Sting walked so the crown could run.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we represented back then with the beginning of the league, people wanted to see that,\u201d said Reid. \u201cWhen people came in, they developed a fan base for a certain group of players. It never left and it never will.\u201d<\/p>\n

Over the years, there have been petitions in hopes of getting a movement started. Now with interest in women\u2019s basketball at an all-time high, Hampton believes it could happen.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people, the fans in Charlotte, they are off the chart,\u201d said Hampton.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a throwback, that\u2019s looking to run it back, and now that she doesn\u2019t have to play them, that even sounds good to Hampton.<\/p>
