GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) \u2014 Dozens of Southern Alamance High School families were locked out of a graduation ceremony on Saturday.<\/p>

Every SAHS senior\u2019s dream is to cross the stage to get their diploma, with their family in the crowd, but one father and a few others couldn\u2019t do that over the weekend. <\/p>\n

Greensboro parents upset after being locked out of Southern Alamance High School graduation (WGHP)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n

The school\u2019s graduation ceremony took place at the Novant Health Fieldhouse at 12:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got there \u2026 approximately 12:40 \u2026 with 30 to 40 people. I\u2019m not sure when the doors were shut,\u201d the father said.<\/p>\n

This father says other parents like himself became furious.<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw parents \u2026 talking profusely. I saw people, at that point, getting agitated. They were starting to beat on the glass, and then all of us were looking at each other. We have tickets. Why can\u2019t we enter the building?\u201d the father said.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Alamance-Burlington School System says each student received seven tickets.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the Greensboro Complex says the capacity of the Novant Health Fieldhouse is around 2,600.<\/p>

\u201cThe fire marshal says, \u2018We\u2019re over capacity,\u2019 and I said, \u2018That\u2019s impossible.\u2019 I said, \u2018There\u2019s 313 students and seven tickets given out.\u2019 I said, \u2018I don\u2019t see how that can be.\u2019 I said, \u2018Those were known numbers before this event even started,’\u201d the father said.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the father says he and dozens of others missed the ceremony.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a big deal \u2026 My son thinks I didn\u2019t show up,\u201d the father said.<\/p>\n

Apologies<\/h2>\n

The ABSC sent FOX8 the following statement: <\/p>\n

We are deeply sorry for the disappointment experienced by any family who was unable to enter this weekend\u2019s graduation ceremony. While the venue limited entry after the event began, we are addressing entry and communication protocols with the venue\u2019s management,\u201d the father said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Greensboro Complex sent FOX8 the following statement: <\/p>\n

The decision to stop admitting guests was made in compliance with occupancy and safety requirements and done in consultation with ABSS staff. We understand how disappointing this was for family members and friends who came to celebrate an important milestone, and we sincerely regret the frustration and disappointment this caused.<\/p>\n

\u2018Big for the Parents\u2019<\/h2>\n

The father does not accept the statements and apologies. <\/p>\n

\u201cI just am surprised that a school or a coliseum doesn\u2019t understand the importance of a high school graduation, and it\u2019s not just about the children. It\u2019s also big for the parents,\u201d the father said.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the school district says there were 313 SAHS graduates, and each received seven tickets. <\/p>\n

The school district plans to speak with the venue staff to find out why they determined they were at capacity.<\/p>
