PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) \u2014 WNBA\u00a0guard Holly Winterburn is getting the chance to continue her professional career after the Portland Fire signed her to a developmental contract on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The Northampton, England, native went undrafted in 2025, but signed with the\u00a0Atlanta Dream\u00a0as a free agent last year. The British guard missed her entire rookie season due to an injury, but Atlanta kept her on for the 2026 preseason. <\/p>\n

That was until Saturday, when Winterburn shared via social media that she was waived shortly before boarding the team bus for the season opener against the Fire.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought my welcome to the W moment would happen on the court, not as I\u2019m getting on the bus for my first ever game,\u201d shared Winterburn via her Instagram story. \u201cBut that\u2019s the reality of this business & I will always be grateful for the opportunity Atlanta gave me. I\u2019m built for this. Thank you to everyone who has checked in on me & sent love. Everything happens for a reason and I\u2019m so excited for what\u2019s next.\u201d<\/p>\n

In her only preseason game, the 25-year-old scored 12 points, had two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Now, she will be under a developmental contract with the Fire who are coming off their first win of the season over the New York Liberty.<\/p>\n
